Trained as a professional contemporary dancer, Nicola Kötterls desire to expend her knowledge in a broader art field brought her from the technical dance training to a more experimental way of performing, including moving image, new media and installations.
Her urgent need to get different perspectives of space in relation to the body and movement, its shapes and the effect on the performer and the spectator, increased the role of media in her art works.
Being a student at the New Media Class (Julian Rosefeldt) at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste Munich and at the Staatliche
Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe, gives a perfect environment to develop her artistic carrier even further. Now, she became part of the Collective ‘Zona Dynamik’. The group uses experimental collaborative works to explore social structures and political dynamics in public spaces in between Europe and the Middle East.
Heteronormative concepts of bodies are fixed components of our thinking structure. Its “non-fulfillment” resoluts in stigmatization and the social exclusion of an individual. This Video wants to show the different qualities of movement and body besides our subjective perception. When all bodies have their own individuality, and consequently their movement is unique, is a representation of this possible?
